Westport, WA

Westport Area

Westport is known for its commercial fishing, a significant marina and important maritime history. We have clients who work in the Alaska fishery, but live in Westport; we also have clients who work in the Washington and Oregon fishery, including charter fishing, and come to us as a result of maritime injury along the Washington and Oregon coast.

Our Westport representation includes Ocean Shores to the North, and the Long Beach peninsula to the South. We represented an injury at sea client in the United States District Court in Seattle on a matter arising from tug boat and barging operations in the Tokeland area. The maritime industry in the Westport area includes both oceangoing vessels and inland waters, including tug and barge operations on inland rivers.

Injury at sea includes sailors working aboard vessels in inland waters. Many maritime injury cases on inland waters can qualify for federal benefits as Jones Act and general maritime law seamen, and many such cases are more appropriately filed in Federal Court in Seattle. Also, many maritime employers operating in the greater Westport area, including Ocean Shores and the Long Beach peninsula, as well as on inland waters, are either based in Seattle or have significant operations, including claims adjustment representatives, in Seattle.

We will meet with maritime injury clients in Westport or the greater Westport area, and have often done so over the past many years. Also, we have assisted some of our clients in obtaining second medical opinions in Seattle to benefit from the latest medical technology.
